Following on from our recent AGM in April, the ARA Ireland Committee currently have two vacant roles to fill. If interested in joining the committee and taking up a role as our Honorary Secretary or Training Officer, please feel free to get in touch with ARA Ireland Chair Niamh Ní Charra.

Joining the committee is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your communication skills, organisational skills, interpersonal skills, IT skills and public speaking skills. Committee Officers would ordinarily serve a term of at least one year with ARA Ireland, with the norm being a 3 year term. The role is voluntary.

The below information provides an outline of the responsibilities for each role.

ARA Ireland organises a year-round program of specialist training sessions for its members. ARA Ireland members include those working in archives, conservation, and records management roles as well as students and volunteers. Training events are designed to meet the needs of all members. The two ARA Ireland Training Officers are responsible for all aspects of planning, organising, and hosting ARA Ireland training events. This work involves researching latest trends and training needs, reaching out to possible speakers for events, and agreeing the agenda and order of events. The Training Officers organise approximately four events a year, although some of these may be multi-day or multi-speaker events meaning the total number of events in a year will vary.

Main responsibilities:

  • To organise and host ARA Ireland training events
  • To attend and participate in ARA Ireland committee meetings (usually 3/4 per year via MS Teams, and AGM in person)
  • To maintain good communications with other officers within the region and to contribute to activities organised within the region and beyond
