Heritage Council poster: Ireland's heritage belongs in the classroom. Help us put it there. A call for specialists to join the Heritage in Schools programme, with images of an old Irish manuscript

The Heritage Council is seeking specialists for their Heritage in Schools Post‑Primary Programme, which supports school visits from experts across Ireland’s natural, built, and cultural heritage.

This programme will partially fund visits to post‑primary schools by specialists working in one or more areas of Ireland’s natural, built, or cultural heritage. It will serve all year groups at post‑primary level, highlighting heritage connections across the Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle curricula.

We welcome specialists from a wide range of fields, including:

  • Local and oral history, including national, public, and global history, family history, and genealogy
  • Archaeology and material culture
  • Local geography
  • Historical architecture
  • Heritage conservation (cultural or built heritage)
  • Heritage of underrepresented or marginalised groups
  • Irish language, literature and folklore
  • Traditional Irish music
  • Ecology, biodiversity and geology
  • Natural heritage conservation
  • Traditional heritage skills, including crafts and built‑heritage skills

If you have expertise in any aspect of heritage and would like to share your knowledge and skills with the next generation while being paid for your work, we encourage you to apply. Applications are submitted through eTenders. The deadline is Monday, 6th July 2026 at noon.

A recording of the information webinar (held 5th June 2026) is available within the tender notice on eTenders.
